Shop is a Bukkit plugin developed by SnowGears that Cassolotl bought for This Land. It allows players to create attractive and intuitive shops that take up very little space and don't use redstone circuitry. All you need to set up a shop is a chest and a sign.

Currencies

Virtual Currency

The virtual currency on This Land is called "Beans". For every minute of active (non-afk) play, you accumulate 0.1 beans, or 6 beans for an hour of active play. You cannot get more than 40 beans per day.

You can check your balance with /money

You can also store your virtual beans in a bank. Over to Cassian for how to use ATMs...

Item-based Currencies

Using the "barter" mode of Shops, it's possible to trade everything using in-game items (e.g. diamonds, emeralds, iron) as currency.

How to use Shops

Buying and selling

Shops that buy or sell work with virtual currency that you earn automatically for active playing time in-game. When a player sells to your Shop, virtual currency leaves their "account" and is added to yours.

Here's what a typical Shop looks like:

Each double-chest in this picture is a Shop that buys something (by right-clicking the sign on the left side of the double-chest) and sells something (by right-clicking the sign on the right side of the double-chest).

The Shop itself is actually the sign - the chest simply stores the inventory, and once it has a sign on it it can only be opened by the owner of the Shop (who placed the Shop sign), regardless of GriefPrevention claims.

You can view details about the shop, such as remaining items and a clarification of the costs, by right-clicking the chest:

To buy or sell from the Shop, right-click the sign. You should hear a *ping* and see an animation and a confirmation message in the chat area.

Bartering

Some players prefer to trade using barter shops instead of using the in-game virtual currency. This means you can trade in-game items for other in-game items.

Here's a barter shop "selling" one saddle to you in exchange for your one diamond:

How to create Shops

To create any kind of Shop, all you need is a chest and a sign. The chest holds any inventory, and the sign is the Shop itself. The Shop is created when you type particular words onto the sign.

Create a Shop that sells to players

Place a chest and put a sign on it. Type the following onto each line of the sign.

  • Line 1: [shop]
  • Line 2: 64 - the number of items your shop sells in one go, in this case 64.
  • Line 3: 100 - the amount of virtual currency you'll get for your items, in this case 100 units of virtual currency.
  • Line 4: sell - this tells the Shop to sell to players.

The sign will appear on the chest, but the text will be dark red. You'll be told in chat to hit the sign with the item you want to sell:

Left-click the sign while holding the item you want to sell. There will be a *ping* sound and an animation, and the text on the sign will change colour. A hologram of the item will appear hovering over the chest. You should see a confirmation message in chat.

Your Shop is ready to sell. Add stock to its inventory by putting it in the chest; until you destroy the sign on the front of the Shop, no one else will be able to open the chest.
